"The Truth about the Gracies"

Löytyipä mielenkiintoista juttua kirjasta eräältä keskustelupalstalta. Kirja itsessään oli myytävänä Ebaylla.

"The Truth about the Gracies"

For sale is an original brazilian comic book published in 1958 called "A verdade sobre os Gracie" or in English "The Truth about the Gracies" (36 pages in total). The objective of this series is to describe the lives of the Gracie brothers (by then Carlos, Hélio, Jorge and Oswaldo) in a comic book form or, according to the original Portuguese text on the magazine: "onde é narrada a vida real dos famosos lutadores de jiu-jitsu e as suas lutas que fizeram história!" "where it is narrated the real life events of the famous jiu jitsu fighters and their fights that made history!"
This particular issue (#7) of the "Truth about the Gracies" concentrates on telling the early events in the life of Hélio Gracie:

* how the doctors advised his older brother Carlos that Helio could not learn jiu jitsu because he was anemic.
* how his older brothers did not let him learn jiu jitsu
* how Helio managed to learn jiu jitsu from a regular student(not a Gracie) at the Gracie academy while his brothers were not watching
* his early fights as a teenager against local bullies and even a street car driver
* It also shows that it took years for Helio to finally defeat his brother Jorge at closed doors jiu jitsu matches between the Gracies

This issue is extremely interesting not only because Helio is the father of famous fighters like Royce, Rickson and Royler but because it makes several references to some of their techniques like "amrlocks" "baloon"(balao). The stories and events featured in the series "The truth about the Gracies" were told at the time by the Gracies themselves to a journalist called "José Geraldo" who wrote the comic book in the mid 1950s.
I will include a complete translation from Portuguese to English to the highest bidder (I was originally born in Brazil). This is truly a rare item and it will never surface on eBay again. This comic book is almost half a century old!!!
